While the film wasn't yet vying for the Golden Popcorn in the Best Kiss or Movie of the Year categories, "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" still had a big night at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards.
The Internet has been buzzing as Logan Lerman, Emma Watson and Ezra Miller were on hand at the pre-show for their debut appearance as a cast, premiering the movie's highly anticipated trailer.
The clip previewed several key scenes fans are itching to see in the adaptation of Stephen Chbosky's coming-of-age tale, which follows Charlie (Lerman) as he navigates adolescence with the help of his new friends Sam (Watson) and Patrick (Miller), the most notable being the "epic" tunnel scene.
The beginning of the trailer showed Sam standing on the bed of her truck with her arms outstretched as the vehicle whipped through the tunnel. The final moment of the trailer similarly showed Charlie on the truck while his voice-over said the book's famous quote: "And in this moment, I swear we are infinite."
"It was awesome. It was really cool," Lerman told MTV News backstage as he recalled the scene. "It was just a magical moment, one of those organic, magical movie moments. ... We just had a good time. It was a blast."
Watson was up for Best Kiss with co-star Rupert Grint for their smooch in "Deathly Hallows, Part 2" but lost to Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson in "Breaking Dawn - Part 1." But just because the actress didn't win this time around doesn't mean she'll miss out on the award next year. In "Perks," Charlie develops a crush on Sam as their friendship grows, leading up to an inevitable lip-lock. While the trailer didn't show the special moment, it did reveal some intimate scenes between the characters, and later, Lerman recalled his kiss with the "Harry Potter" actress saying, "It's kind of odd when you're doing it for a movie. It's kind of weird. She's cool. It wasn't as awkward as it could have been. It's Emma Watson, so I'm a lucky guy."
Another exciting clip gave fans a glimpse at the adaptation of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Miller's character, Patrick, is a flamboyant thespian who helms the part of the British rock musical's emcee Frank N. Furter. When we spoke to the actor on the red carpet, he told us the role almost made him ditch film in favor of taking the "Rocky Horror" stage full time. "I was very grateful to even be able to [act in the musical], and I had this moment where I was like, 'I might do "Rocky Horror Picture Show" forever. That might be it,' " he said.
Fortunately, for those who want to continue to catch Miller on the big screen, he talked himself out of it. He might want to consider a career in action films next. Towards the end of the trailer, there's an intense scene where Patrick and Brad (Johnny Simmons), the high school quarterback, fight in the school cafeteria. Simmons described the brawl as both "physical and emotional," revealing that neither actor held back during filming. "We both kind of agreed that we were gonna go for it and really fight it out," he said. "I jacked up my knee, which was a battle scar. It was fun and worth it. I think it turned out good from what I've heard."
Miller agreed, telling us that he and Simmons wanted the fight to look realistic, because it's vital to the development of both of their characters. "It was hard. We all got bruises. That's how you make a fight," he explained. "I've made fights before in movies and it happens the same way. You plan something with the stunt choreographer, it's all well and good and then you get to it and it's like whatever happens, it's [still] a fight. To make a fight happen, you can do it quarter speed, but you're still tumbling to the ground."
Jaw-dropping, heart-pounding, gut-busting moments galore. See what went down at the 21st annual MTV Movie Awards!
